Ex Mercato Ittico - Museo della Marineria Toscana [Former Fish Market - Museum of the Tuscan Marine]
The restored premises of the former Fish Market of Viareggio, instituted in 1933, are soon to house the Museum of the Tuscan Marine. The idea of the Museum was conceived in 1920 by the "Committee for the first centennial of the city of Viareggio", but it was the League between Shipwrights and Caulkers that forty years later, in the late 1960s, collected the first pieces to exhibit in a future museum. Following numerous turns of a bureaucratic nature, the ex fish market was proposed as the venue of the Museum of the Marine. With its own web site, the Museum presents the history and technologies tied to boat building and navigation, with special attention to the activity that has historically developed in Viareggio. In addition to showcases containing models and objects tied to the marine, the Museum will have a strong virtual component with strong points consisting in films, slides and a telematic archive.
