House of Francesco Redi
In 1672, the great scientist and poet from Arezzo Francesco Redi rented a house on Via de’ Bardi. A plaque on the facade recalls the building’s illustrious guest.
This street lined with old palazzi is cited in the "Life" of Galileo written by Niccolò Gherardini, where he narrates how Galileo’s father, recognising his son «inclined to study and gifted with keen intelligence and aptitude, permitted him to go to grammar school in care of a certain professor, quite a common man who taught at his home located on Via de’ Bardi».
