House of Paolo Mascagni
Famed anatomist Paolo Mascagni was born in a house near the church in 1775. After his training in Siena, he conducted important studies on the lymphatic vessels which made him famous throughout Europe. In 1800 he moved to Pisa, and the following year to Florence to occupy the chair of anatomy, physiology and chemistry; he also taught pictorial anatomy at the Accademia di Belle Arti fiorentina [Fine Arts Academy of Florence].
