Monumental Church of San Francesco d'Assisi
Built in the second half of the 15th century through the efforts of the Blessed Michele Turignoli, the monumental church of the monastery of San Francesco d’Assisi was restored in 2003. Inside, it houses eight glazed terracotta sculptures, attributable to Andrea della Robbia and his sons. The handsome cloister facing the facade, exhibits two sundials made in 1755 by engineer Giorgio Kindt, an expert in gnomonics and functionary of the grand-ducal government, over two previous sundials that had been oriented mistakenly. Recently restored, Kindt’s sundials are intact and in working order.
