Museo di Bilance e Pesi [Museum of Scales and Weights]
Founded in 1996, the Museum presents most of the scales and weights collected in the early 1960s by Velio Ortolani. Visitors can admire, in particular, large platform scales, scales of various epochs, instruments commonly used in everyday life and commercial activities: from the cast-iron scale for weighing children to the scale for weighing adults. The oldest piece in the collection is a weight from the 15th century. Housed in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Massi in the historical centre of Monterchi, the Museum is currently closed for renovation.
