Museo e centro studi del Teatro, Scenografia e Costume [Theatre, Set Design and Costume Museum Study Centre]
Opened in December 2005 on the premises of the Bibbiena Town Hall, the Theatre, Set Design and Costume Museum offers a panoramic view of the historic evolution of stage settings from the origins through the 20th century. Divided into 7 sections (Greek theatre; Roman theatre; the rediscovery of Vitruvius in the Renaissance; the first representations of the Calandria by Cardinal Dovizi; the great masters of seventeenth-century scenographic tradition; the origins of the operatic theatre in Venice; tendencies in set design in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries), the museum displays costumes and set designs, sketches, drawings, technical documents, photographs and models of historic theatres such as the Olimpico in Vicenza, the masterpiece of the architectural genius of Andrea Palladio.
In the adjacent study centre it is planned to set up a computerised data bank for collecting information pertinent to scenographic sets from the baroque era to the contemporary age.
