Museo Paleontologico della Scuola Media "Alessandro Manzoni" ["Alessandro Manzoni" Secondary School Paleontological Museum]
The Scuola Media "Alessandro Manzoni", encapsulated in the Bucine district Institute, houses in the vestibule of the building a Paleontological Museum. Established at the initiative of the late Prof. Alessandro Sacconi, who began to collect and arrange the material in 1976, it contains fossils coming from the Pliocene and the Pleistocene, found mainly in the Upper Valdarno area. Among the most curious objects are the remains of a prehistoric elephant (Palaeoloxodon antiquus), of a Gruiform bird and of a deer, a small malacological collection and fossils coming from the various layers of sedimentation of lakes in the Upper Valdarno territory. Interesting stone objects are also displayed (arrowheads, stone axes and flints) and fragments of ceramics from more recent ages (Etruscan buccheri).
