Museo del Vetro - Castello di Poggio alle Mura [Glass Museum - Castle of Poggio alle Mura]
In 1992, in the western wing of the Castle of Poggio alle Mura, also known as the Banfi Castle insofar as it is owned by and the Banfi winemaking firm and is its seat of representation, a museum was opened with the scope of illustrating the history of the art of glassmaking from antiquity to our own day. The whole itinerary, accompanied by explanatory panels, focuses particularly on the production of wine bottles. Notably important among the numerous specimens displayed in the museum's six rooms is the collection of Roman glassware, consisting mainly of cruets, plates, glasses and ewers. The collection of Venetian blown glass and some examples of modern artistic bottles, the work of such great artists as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalì and Jean Cocteau, is also highly interesting.
