Stele "Sole per Galileo Galilei" ["Sun for Galileo Galilei" Stele]
The stele entitled "Sun for Galileo Galilei", by Giņ Pomodoro, was inaugurated in September 1997 in Piazza Poggi, on Lungarno Serristori. With this large sculpture in pietra serena, about 9 metres in height, the recently deceased artist intended to pay homage to the astronomical research conducted by the Pisan scientist. At the top of the column, there is indeed a stylized bronze sun, which with a play of empty and full spaces, creates fascinating contrasts of light and shadow.
