Misc: Michael's Coat of Arms (p. 147b)
Michael had a sense of humor. Here, he draws his imaginary coat of arms, although, as a non-noble, he was not entitled to one. At the top, he shows his "crown" as the leaves of white radishes. Between the radishes, a rat—Michael, perhaps?—has reversed fortune and caught the cat. Michael uses the golden color from his coat of arms on the flag at the bow of the galley shown on p. 145b, perhaps imagining himself flying his own flag as a Venetian noble one day.
