The Italian term mezzetta comes from mezzo, or medius in Medieval Latin, the equivalent of the classical Latin modius, the unit of capacity used by the Romans. The mezzetta was long employed as a unit of measurement in some Italian regions. In Florence it was equal to 0.7613 liters; in the Kingdom of Naples, it was used for dry substances, with a value of 027.77 liters; in Cagliari, it was used particularly for measuring wine, and was equal to 1.121 liters.
