Jecker, in partnership with his two brothers, became one of the most famous French makers of optical and mathematical instruments of his time. He was active between the late eighteenth century and the early decades of the nineteenth century. After an apprenticeship in London with the renowned Jesse Ramsden (1735-1800), François-Antoine opened a workshop in Paris that produced many secondary prototypes of weights and measures for the French départements. The Jecker brothers' prolific output included up to 3,000 telescopes a year.
