Of this radiant-heat thermopile designed by Nobili and Melloni, only the brass ring and about 60 elements remain. These project in a comb-like fashion at both ends, and the electrodes are the characteristic Nobili plug-in terminal system. The long screw protruding from the side was used for an adjustable support, which allowed the thermopile to be orientated accurately toward the heat source. Also missing are the brass cone-shaped trumpet to collect the radiant energy and the back cover. Provenance: Lorraine collections.
