Thirty-six bottles of different shapes and sizes. Some carry labels describing their contents, such as: "microscopic salt" (complex of crystallized salts from human urine), "oil pressed from ants" (perhaps formic acid), "clove oil and orange rind prep[ared] by Peter Leopold c. 1775, poly[chrest] salt... Glaseri" (Glaser's polychrest salt, i.e., potassium sulfate; "polychrest" is from the Greek polykhrestos, "serving many purposes"). Most of the bottles, however, contain still unidentified substances. Some of these items are small matrasses. Provenance: Lorraine collections.
