According to Hyginus, the constellation of Sagittarius is in the shape of a centaur because Jupiter transformed the satyr Crotus and set him among the stars, giving him an image that encapsulated his nature: the tail of a satyr, the legs of a horse, because he was a superb rider, and an arrow to symbolise his hunting skills.
