Hyginus tells us that the constellation of the Winged Horse is Pegasus, the son of Neptune and of the Gorgon Medusa. Pegasus appears in the myth of Bellerophon, a hero who killed the Chimera but who then, in his arrogance, flew so high up into the sky that he fell and was killed. His winged horse, however, was turned into a constellation by Jupiter.
