Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr (1641-1686)
Maps of the heavens in gnomonic projection, 1742
Vienna, Private collection

These five sheets are part of the Atlas cœlestis by Doppelmayr (Nuremberg 1742). Three of them show the equatorial constellations while the others show the northern and southern circumpolar constellations. The constellations are shown in concave projection, whereas old celestial globes usually show them in convex projection which provides a mirror image of the constellations.
