The "plough star", Babylon, ca. 500 B.C.
London, British Museum, inv. BM 86378

The first of the Mul.Apin ("plough star") astronomical compilation tablets contains six star and constellation lists. The first list starts with the North. The second contains the dates of certain constellations' heliacal rising. The third lists the constellations that rise and set at the same time. The fourth shows the time differences between heliacal risings. The fifth combines the stars that reach culmination with those that rise at the same time. And lastly, there is a list of 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
