Carlo Alfonso Guadagni
Awarded degrees in philosophy and medicine, the Florentine Carlo Alfonso Guadagni conducted experiments in physics starting as a youth. In 1744 he began to teach physics in his own home in Florence, making use of his own experimental instruments and apparatus. In 1748 he was appointed to the first Chair in Experimental Physics at the University of Pisa, where he brought his own instruments, which were purchased by the university in 1750.
