Giuseppe Salvetti
A Florentine engineer who worked under the reigns of Peter Leopold and Ferdinand III of Lorraine, he was active, along with Leonardo Ximenes (1716-1786) and Pietro Ferroni (1745-1825), in the rebuilding and improvement of the grand-ducal road system. His were the projects for rebuilding the ancient Lauretana road, in the section between Siena and the Valdinievole, the superintendency of the works for the "road of the two seas" between Livorno and Ravenna (today's SS 67) and the Traversa Road that was to connect Livorno to the new Royal Modenese Road designed by Leonardo Ximenes. To Giuseppe Salvetti we also owe the project, modified after his death (1801), for the Leopoldine Aqueduct of Colognole, in the Province of Livorno, and the restoration of the Aqueduct of Castiglion della Pescaia.
