Ecomuseo del Casentino - Museo del Carbonaio [Casentino Ecomuseum - Charcoal Burner's Museum]
The Museum, opened in May 2001 and included in the Forest System of the Casentino Ecological Museum, is dedicated chiefly to illustrating the charcoal burner's trade. Set up in the town's old school overlooking the ancient church of Sant'Angelo a Cetica, it is divided into three sections: a small exhibition area with tools of work, flanked by a room in which the various stages of constructing a charcoal kiln are described through explanatory panels; a multifunctional hall for the projection of films (The "Giuseppe Baldini" Memory Bank) relevant to the Casentine culture of materials; and "The House of Flavours", a room dedicated to traditional products and recipes. Outside, in the area adjacent to the church, a charcoal burner's hut and kiln have been replicated for educational purposes, while in the town and its surroundings can be seen other structures linked to the charcoal burner's trade and included in the project called "The School of our Grandfathers".
