Universitą degli Studi di Pisa - Dipartimento di Energetica [University of Pisa - Department of Energetics]
In 1841 the Institute of Technological Physics, under the direction of Luigi Pacinotti, was inaugurated at Pisa. The Institute became a true school of engineering studies, allowing the University to issue graduate degrees in Civil Engineering and Architecture. In the Thirties, the Faculty of Engineering was moved to its current location. In 1960-61 the Institute of General Applied Physics and the Institute of Machinery were created; in 1983 they merged to form the present-day Department of Energetics. The Department has a collection of some twenty instruments and devices dating from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century, coming from the Institute of Technological Physics, where Antonio Pacinotti constructed an "electromagnetic device". Particularly interesting are a watchmaker's lathe and a vacuum pump from the 19th century, as well as equipment for experiments dating from the middle of the 20th century.
