Electrical machine combining friction and induction designed by Filippo Cecchi c. 1863, a few years before the model invented by Ferdinand-Philippe Carré. The two machines are fairly similar and operate identically. The two disks are rotated by means of a pulley system. The lower glass disk is rubbed by two leather cushions, while the surface of the upper ebonite disk receives induced charges from a brass comb opposite the glass disk and carries them continuously to the other collecting comb secured to a large brass spherical prime conductor on a thin glass pillar. Grounding wires run along the table legs and are connected to a brass electrode secured to the turned mahogany support at the base of the conductor. Made by Giuseppe Caldini, about whom we have no information.
